The last month in India has seen a massive jump in COVID-19 cases, especially in the state of Maharashtra. Several Bollywood celebrities have also been tested for the virus in the past few weeks while filming for their films. In the last few days, actors such as Akshay Kumar, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Govinda and Bhumi Pednekar have also proved positive. Now the West Indies Federation of Employees (FWICE) is calling on the units to reduce the number of staff in film sets.
BN Tiwari, president of FWICE, reportedly said the actors believed the crown was gone and began gathering 10 members, including bodyguards, managers, make-up artists and hairdressers on set. They even brought more than one assistant with them. He also said that they are revising the SOP for the artists and will mention the minimum number of staff that can be on the set.
In 2020, the government clearly stated in its COVID guidelines that artists are encouraged to wrap their makeup at home and report on sets with minimal staff. It is also recommended that tests and fittings be conducted at the actor’s residence, and that testing of the appearance and other nuances be completed during video calls.
Apart from that, hair and makeup artists are told to wear face shields and PPE while doing hair and makeup, as this involves person-to-person contact. Make-up artists are also told to mix products in a disposable palette and, if possible, use only one applicator with brushes per actor.
